When cowards flinch and traitors sneer…

The Red Flag is a popular and uplifting song for socialists during hard times.  One of BULSinside’s moles has revealed that a certain former chair of Birmingham University Conservative Future and new comrade has returned to his former haunts of Thatcherism.

Having attended a BUCF event with Rt. Hon. Michael Portillo, Joseph Brewer (spotted here in the backrow) commented that it was “a good little event”.  It looks like he’s been able to patch up things with his old friends and has been welcomed back with open arms.  Either that or he is trying to garner further support in a bid for the Guild Presidency.

Under Guild rules Tom, no society is allowed to endorse a candidate.

We will not be breaking such rules and I hope that you also follow these rules, laid down in the Guild’s fine constitution
    :-)

I made no accusation that BUCF would be endorsing Mr. Brewer. I also made no suggestion that BULS would, or ever has thought of endorsing him.

  3. Joseph Brewer says:

I havn’t asked any societies to support me, only individuals.

Why is my bid botched? Isn’t that libellous?

It amazes me that you have anything to say about it – the amount of times I hear about guild politics and cliques, and here you have a post about what one person is doing in the evenings. I’m sure you’ll have a humerous response to this but I’m dissappointed in Labour club.

Did Kissinger have something to say about this?

BULS obviously will not be endorsing any candidates in the forthcoming exec elections.

What is the point of all this? How is Brewer a Traitor for attending a Tory event? I attend them all the time. (And no it was implied that brewer is some kind of traitor despite the fact that the article does not explicitly say so). And why is “good little event” in bold? And if he is trying to garner support for his bid, then why not? Or should we all withdraw into a ghetto of left wing sentimentality instead of reaching out?

    Hear hear!
I’m sorry, but i cannot help but feel ashamed at this attack on Mr. Brewer.
    ‘Traitor’, ‘coward’???
Why this character assasination? I don’t wish to speak against my good comrades here, but is this really necessary? Admittedly, i’ve only been around a short while, but i like Joe.

Ok, maybe i’m overreacting a bit here (maybe we all are), it’s probably an in-joke. :)
Best wishes to all 5 candidates!!! xxxxx

    I share Mr Brewer’s disappointment.

I’ve been to a Conservative event, and I left it with the Red Flag playing softly in my heart. Perhaps Comrade Brewer did, too?

  8. tomguise says:

I didn’t make any accusation that you wanted BUCF support – only that you may have returned to their group to patch things up with old friends and ask for THEIR support, individually. I said nothing untoward.

I also believe their are six candidates – with RON included. Best of luck to them all!!
Yes calling the bid ‘botched’ would be libellous.

The quote is in bold because it is a link to the post on the BUCF blog.

I apologise though, perhaps Brother Brewer went with a big plan – to make a defector out of Portillo and the other Conservative no Futurer’s. I should’ve asked for his side of the story, which as any member of BULS is allowed to do, he may email to the committee and we will post it at once :D

Tom i do believe that you have made yourself look like a dick.
