Every now and again a story comes along which is too good to believe… think of the Piano Man, a mute man, a virtuoso piano player who walked out of the sea in Kent. Most of the stories turned out to be false, he was in fact mentally ill and the papers blew the story out of proportion. When it was suggested that the government sexed-up a few facts the media went bonkers. Instead the tabloid press were caught outright lieing and no-one bats an eyelid.
Or take the story of Alexander Litvinenko, a former KGB spy, who was murdered in a London hotel by a fatal overdose of the radioactive isotope polonium-210. Tied in to this drama were Russian oligarachs such as Boris Berezovsky and with the Russian authorities refusal to extradite the main suspect, Andrei Lugovoi, diplomats have been expelled from the Russian embassy in London. This is as sexy and exciting as a Bond fim, until the story died away I was expecting the investigation to lead to a tropical Carribean island.
So along comes the next story which defies all expectations. Max Mosley, the son of the inter-war fasicst leader Oswald Mosley, a F1 boss and multi-millionaire has been caught taking part in a “Nazi-style orgy in a torture dungeon” with five prostitutes. Ouch
Watch it here.
The prospect of watching this is stomach turning and something this propa blogga hasn’t done. I would argue this is perverse but obviously it’s not illegal. If it wasn’t for the videos I probably wouldn’t believe the story.
Mosley took this to the High Court to get an injunction. Instead Mr Justice Eady refused on the grounds that the video was already too widely circulated that an injunction would not prevent people being able to view it. Which means you can still view it on the News of the World site.
Mr Justice Eady said that Mr Mosley no longer had a reasonable expectation of privacy because the content of the video was now “widely familiar”.
If Mosley was angry before he would be doubly angry now. (To be fair if Mosley had not taken it to the High Court the fickle readership of the News of the World would probably already have forgotten about this.) Despite this it doesn’t seem fair. Mosley is entitled to his own privacy and the ‘respectable’ Mr. Justice Eady is having a joke. Just because the clips have already been viewed by some doesn’t mean that they should be left up for more to see.
I suppose I feel sorry for Mr. Mosley. For choosing those sexual activities we can only surmise he is weird and potentially imbalanced but that doesn’t mean it’s right these video clips are made available to the sickos who get kicks out of watching this. Whatever happened to privacy?

I agree that it is ridiculous to say that just because it is in circulation, there is no need to ban the video. A crazy decision which is simply wrong.
The only issue i have with this situation is that his job means he will be in the public eye. What i cant understand is why these people who are in the public eye seem to think they can act in this way and not get caught. His sick fetish aside, he was performing it in public. Not in the privacy of his own home.
His privacy went out the window when he decided to take a job where he is in the media, and when he decided to act that way in public.
I still feel people “in the public eye” should be afforded a degree of privacy- I think what’s far sicker than whatever he was up to is that people want to watch the video and read about it.
blogstats show that twelve people have clicked the link from here to watch the video :s
which initially disturbed me, til I realised we’ve had 224 hits in that time… so only a small proportion of our readership are that nosey/sick
I didn’t watch all of it.
