As someone who is unable to give blood due to a childhood medical condition (having been refused when I have tried), I understand the frustrations of those within the gay male community regarding their inability to give blood. I too think they should be able to give blood when there is no genuine medical reason for them not being able to. I recommend that any who support this visit this website. http://www.nus.org.uk/Campaigns/LGBT/Donation-not-discrimination1/

It's a huge shame about the organ shortage, blood and bone marrow supplies are also critically low. Tragically a boy from my school died aged 15 in 2007 because a bone marrow donor pulled out at the last minute.
I'm really glad that the blood donation service has been coming back on to campus every four months, it's a brilliant idea and I hope that the next Guild Officer Team maintain the service.
Sadly male members of the LGBTQ community are unable to donate blood due to the NHS's fears over HIV transmission. This is a hugely outdated and discriminatory view of the gay community; as we all know HIV can be transmitted through needles, breast milk and heterosexual sex just as easily as through homosexual sex.
