This is just a quick post before bed (IMF, economists and the wider economy tomorrow, don’t worry). But unless I have been completely mislead, the Universities Minister, David Willetts has suffered a motion of ‘No confidence’ against him in Guild Council today.
Oh no! Not the University of Birmingham Guild of Students (ever so slightly sarcastically) you might say. But, do not underestimate the power of collective action. Moves against Willetts are happening all over the county with even his former University tutor following suit. So here we have it, a year into the Tory-lead Coalition and already two Ministers of suffered votes of ‘No confidence’ from influential organisations (correct me if I’m wrong on that particular point) with Willetts soon to follow.
It seems Vince Cable was right, the Coalition is clearly being too Moaist.

When you say “…already two Ministers (have) suffered votes of ‘No confidence’ from influential organisations … with Willetts soon to follow” do you mean Willetts will soon become the second or that two Ministers have already been no confidenced and Willetts will soon be the third?
The latter
Oh dear! The ultimately left-wing Guild Council has unsurprisingly seized on an opportunity to say they do not like a Tory minister – Tell me something I don’t know!
If BUCF and other right wing organisations/societies tried to take an interest in the workings in the Guild (although I can’t really talk, lol) these things might be less often. Apparently there were many Tories in the room who were completely silent on the matter while it happened in Guild Council.
And you’re missing the point. The ‘No confidence’ isn’t simply about Birmingham Guild of Students but Student Unions across the country in a collective effort.
