Committee

Honorary Member - Dennis Minnis

Labour Students is run on a day-to-day basis by an executive committee, most of whom are elected at the Annual General Meeting.  The committee for 2011/12 is listed below.

More info on the committee coming soon!

Chair – Dan Harrison

Daniel is very proud to be BULS Chair, having joined the party when Gordon Brown became leader in 2008. Having experienced firsthand with Gisela Stuart, MP for Edgbaston, the power of a good constituency MP, Daniel is very interested in local politics, but also takes an active interest in Culture, Media and Sport, and recently opposed the axing of the UK Film Council and cuts to arts and theatre funding. Daniel tries to remain as active as possible with London Young Labour and is the former ‘Freshers Officer’ for BULS, overseeing huge increases in recruitment to the cause. He is a third year Media, Culture and Society with History student and has never taken out a super-injunction.

Vice-Chair - Max Ramsay

Max joined BULS and the wider Labour party in his first year in September 2009. He quickly became Website Editor in October 2009 and began about modernising and streamlining the website (though not to its current form) and is now the BULS blog’s biggest contributor to date. Max is currently a third year studying History and Politics and along with Oliver Cosentino, Max represents the BULS ‘northern contingent’. He would describe himself as an Aspirationalist Socialist and a big believer in neo-Keynesian economics.  Max is also a keen swimmer, a rather geeky follower of Doctor Who, a wannabe ballroom dancer  and has the unofficial role of BULS ‘envoy’ to the Tory and Lib Dem societies. Max can be found and followed on twitter under @maxafax

Treasurer - Kieran O’Halloran

Second year History and Political Science  BA student. Kieran enjoys long walks in the park and weekends at Butlins.
Secretary – Vacant

Communications Officer -Luke Jones

Luke joined the Labour party in 2008, a perfect example of bad timing as it coincided with a financial crisis and the beginning of the end for New Labour, demonstrating why Luke should probably not pursue a career in politics. Undeterred, he continued to campaign in his home constituency of Islwyn in south Wales, and joined BULS a few months into his time at the University of Birmingham. Since then, he has campaigned tirelessly for Labour across the region, and will tell you he was awake at 5.30am on the day of the 2010 general election as many times as you will allow him. After a stint as Vice-President of the Welsh Society, Luke decided to try his luck at Communications Officer and was successful in beating off stiff competition from RON. Luke studies History and Political Science, is a Student Ambassador and former Vice-President of the Welsh Society, and hates those who talk about themselves in the third person.
